Life Tragedy

After that, the tragedy of Oscar's life-drama began. Oscar was overwhelmed by the monotony of family life. His illicit affair began in 1891 with the young poet Lord Alfed Douglas. In 1895 a lawsuit was filed in court alleging homosexuality. Oscar was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment. Out of prison Oscar painted a picture of his prison torment with his greatest poem, “The Ballad of Reading Prison”.

A new life was waiting for him outside the jail. All properties were declared bankrupt, and relations with his wife and children were severed. Even in the midst of extreme hardship and financial crisis, Oscar's companions were his habit of intelligent speech, humor, and whimsical controversial speech.

 

Finally, at the age of fourty eight, his life came to an end at the Oscars on November 30, 1900, in a Paris hotel. Oscar Wilde is buried in a cemetery in Paris.
